President’s Letter

paula-edgar-200-300Dear MBBA Members and Supporters:

I am proud to serve as the new President of the Metropolitan Black Bar Association (MBBA) and I look forward to working with the Board and Officers of the organization to support the black legal community as we continue our mission towards advancing equality and excellence in the pursuit of justice.

Our Association pushes forward this mission each year, and it is only right that the goals we set also facilitate advancement in the legal community at large. As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Fortunately for our organization, we have a strong, vocal membership, that will continue to advocate for issues that matter most to our community.

My goals for the organization during my two year term are symbolized by the Four P’s of Progress:

  • Partnership;
  • Pipeline;
  • Professional Development; and
  • Presence.

I will update you on the details of each of these areas during the bar year. As we work to develop and accomplish these goals, here is what I need from all of you:

(1) Join - become a member of MBBA; (2) Partner - be an active member by participating on projects or bringing resources to the organization to support our work; and (3) Lead - drive a committee, a project, or initiative as they relate to the goals at large.

I want to extend my gratitude to those of you who fulfilled any of these requests in the previous year, and ask that you continue to Join, Partner and Lead with the MBBA in the years to come.

Our members have always been the driving force of our expansion. If you have not renewed your membership, please take the time to do so. To check your membership status, contact our Vice President of Membership, Nadine Etienne Bazile at VPmembership@mbbanyc.org. To learn more about the benefits of joining, refer to the Membership tab on our website, contact MBBA’s Executive Director Kim Parker at executivedirector@mbbanyc.org or mbbanyc.org contact me directly at: president@mbbanyc.org.

Please continue to spread the word about the MBBA on your social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and share your feedback and input using #MBBANYC and continue to encourage your friends, family and colleagues to join the MBBA.

It is an honor to serve as President of the MBBA and I look forward to your engagement, feedback, and support during my term.

KInd regards, Paula T. Edgar Metropolitan Black Bar Association, President (2016-2018)
