Over the last few decades the field of alternative dispute resolution has grown tremendously. The recognition that not all cases are well suited for the adversarial process and that there are multiple paths to justice is increasingly shared by attorneys, judges, and the public. In 2011, the ABA declared the third week of October, “ABA Mediation Week.”
Our program is designed to help lawyers understand the skills and training needed to become a mediator. Participants will earn 2 CLE credits.
We will explore the unique concepts underlying mediation, how mediation differs from litigation, and how the mediative process itself might affect possible outcomes. We will also discuss which areas of law and which types of clients can most benefit from mediation.
We will also address practical issues including training, apprenticeship and mentoring opportunities, support, and how you can fit mediation into your practice.
A panel of experienced professionals who mediate issues ranging from family law matters to equal opportunity employment and fair housing issues will present the program.
